Top 10 (Mostly) Free ServiceNow Training Resources

By Matt Rooke

From videos to articles, Q&As, quizzes, and forums, the internet is full of high-quality ServiceNow content – and most of it is completely free. Given how complex and multi-faceted this technology can be, this is certainly a good thing.

And in 2025, we’ve also seen a huge influx of free ServiceNow training content. This comes in the form of the ServiceNow University, which has recently been released online for free. The University is probably the most valuable single platform on this list, so it’s definitely worth giving it a go. But there are plenty more worth checking out as well.

So, without further ado, here are our picks for the ten best ServiceNow training resources.

Free Official ServiceNow Resources

Our first set of resources are all published by ServiceNow, through a variety of different platforms and websites. While some are aimed squarely at technical experts, most feature a range of content for learners of differing abilities.

The resources in this section are the best place to go for official and up-to-date information. Many also benefit from offering structured or defined journeys, which can be particularly useful if you’ve got a clear long-term learning goal, or you just don’t really know where to start.

But on the downside, they’re probably a little less accessible than resources created by independent experts, since ServiceNow is always going to take a more formal approach. This isn’t a reason not to use them, but you might want to use a mixture of ServiceNow and non-ServiceNow resources to get a mix of different perspectives. See section two for more details here.

1. ServiceNow University

The ServiceNow University was officially launched just a few weeks ago at the ServiceNow 2025 Knowledge conference. But the resources it offers were largely consolidated from two previous sources: The NowLearning and RiseUp platforms. Now all resources are available for free – excluding only instructor-led training courses (see section three for more details).

The University features both self-contained resources and structured courses, but it’s in this latter category where it really shines. Those looking to follow a particular career goal can access one of seven career journeys. And if you want to prove your skills with a certification, you can learn everything on the syllabus through specialist credential paths

At a Glance – ServiceNow University:

  • What is it?: ServiceNow’s official learning and training platform for role-based and certification training.
  • What resources are available?: On-demand courses, learning paths, instructor-led training, career journeys, and a help center.
  • Why should you use it?: The ServiceNow University is the best place for free resources aimed at learners of all levels and abilities. It provides structured and official learning paths, many of which are aligned with ServiceNow certifications.

2. ServiceNow Community Training Resources

The ServiceNow Community is something of a middle-ground between the official and third-party resources on this blog – since plenty of content isn’t generated by ServiceNow itself. The Community features blogs, threads, forums, Q&As, and more, much of which is user-generated. This is a wealth of helpful information that really benefits from the diversity of skills and experience across the ecosystem.

But the biggest selling point of the Community is this: It’s the best place to build your profile and expand your network within the ecosystem. If you’re just starting out, you might want to consider a User Group (known as a SNUG) to connect with others like you. If you’ve got more experience, consider joining the ServiceNow Community Expert program to prove your credibility.

At a Glance – ServiceNow Community:

  • What is it?: A forum for users, developers, and admins to ask questions, share solutions, and network.
  • What resources are available?: Discussion threads, blogs, product announcements, and user-created solutions.
  • Why should you use it?: To connect with other ServiceNow professionals and discuss real-world problems. It’s great for building your network and getting under the skin of how ServiceNow professionals work and the problems they solve.

3. ServiceNow Developer Site

If you haven’t got coding knowledge, you can happily skip this resource, since it’s specifically designed for developers. The site features a whole range of resources, guides, and technical documentation. It’s also the place to go for APIs, libraries, code samples, and a whole host of other materials to help you customize your ServiceNow deployment.

Most importantly, it also offers Personal Developer Instances. These are essentially sandboxed environments where developers can build code or test new features without impacting a real-life ServiceNow instance. This means you can experiment without risking disruption or downtime to critical workflows.

At a Glance – ServiceNow Developer Site:

  • What is it?: The official portal for developers working with the ServiceNow platform. This is a learning resource aimed at helping developers build, test, and grow skills.
  • What resources are available?: Learning paths, courses, certifications, Personal Developer Instances, hands-on labs, API documentation, and learning paths.
  • Why should you use it?: This is the best way for developers to get practical, hands-on experience through virtualized instances that mimic a real-life ServiceNow deployment.
  • Find out more: Check out the full ServiceNow Developer site.

4. ServiceNow Documentation

The ServiceNow Documentation platform offers official product specifications, explainers, and answers to technical questions. It’s the best place to find up-to-date product-specific information and release notes. This makes it a hugely helpful resource, though the official format of the platform makes it slightly less accessible than other resources on this list.

Unsurprisingly, there’s a lot of crossover between this platform and the Developer site. But generally, the Developer Site is a bit more hands-on and practical, whereas this is more of an official reference and admin guide. Crucially, this is aimed toward a broader user base, including admins, implementers, and customers.

At a Glance – ServiceNow Documentation:

  • What is it?: Official technical documentation for all ServiceNow modules, products, and releases.
  • What resources are available?: Product guides, release notes, API references, and troubleshooting tips.
  • Why should you use it?: As the official documentation hub, this is the best source of truth for up-to-date technical information (particularly for new products) as well as answering particularly product-specific questions.
  • Find out more: Check out the full ServiceNow Documentation hub.

Free Third-Party ServiceNow Resources

As you can probably guess from the name, the resources in this section are all compiled by non-ServiceNow-affiliated people and organizations.

Often, these are seasoned ServiceNow experts who are well-known in the Community. The content they create is particularly valuable for anybody trying to get some real-world insight into ServiceNow challenges and solutions. They also benefit from a more informal and accessible tone than you’d expect from the official ServiceNow publications.

However, a warning: the content in this section isn’t official and therefore may contain errors and inaccuracies. While we’ve generally prioritized respected and authoritative ServiceNow experts, some will obviously be more up-to-date than others.

Of course, there are far more fantastic independent creators and channels than we could ever list – but here are our picks for the most important.

5. ServiceNow Training Resources on YouTube

YouTube needs no introduction. As the internet’s go-to repository of free video content, there’s an absolute wealth of expertise here to learn from. As you’d expect, there’s a whole range of ServiceNow-specific channels, tutorials, and free resources from independent creators to consume here.

In truth, this section’s a bit of a cheat, since there are countless channels available here that could all be resources in their own right. But if we listed them all individually, we’d be here for ages, so instead we’ll just point you in the direction of a few channels that we think are really worth paying attention to.

Of course, we can’t skip out the ServiceNow Official YouTube Channel (@servicenow) or the Dev Program Channel (@ServiceNowDevProgram) – both of which are well worth a browse. But where YouTube really shines is in how-to content by independent creators. Some of the best include @SAASWithServiceNow, @knewget, and @gauthamdigitallearning.

At a Glance – YouTube:

  • What is it?: Let’s be honest, you know the answer to this one already.
  • What resources are available?: Tutorials, webinars, demos, and how-to guides.
  • Why should you use it?: Practical guidance from seasoned ServiceNow experts, in a digestible, free, and visual format. This is particularly useful for anybody who’s looking to dip in without signing up for a full course.
  • Find out more: Check out more ServiceNow content on YouTube.

6. ServiceNow Guru

ServiceNow Guru is an independent publication founded by Mark Stanger, a seasoned expert who also happened to be one of ServiceNow’s very first employees. The site includes features, how-to guides, and explainers from multiple contributors (or ‘gurus’) – including some of the industry’s most well-informed and experienced experts.

Most of the content on ServiceNow Guru is fairly practical, including countless guides on niche topics like “Exporting Records to CSV Using ServiceNow Flow Designer” or the “GlideQuery Cheat Sheet.” But the platform also features more foundational content like “Overview of ServiceNow Hardware Asset Management” as well as more opinion-based pieces like “We Need to Talk About Workspaces.”

At a Glance – ServiceNow Guru:

  • What is it?: A blog and knowledgebase by ServiceNow experts, with a particular focus on scripting and customization guides.
  • What resources are available?: How-to guides, commentary, technical explainers.
  • Why should you use it?: This is mostly aimed at advanced and technical users looking to solve specific and practical queries. It’s good for anybody looking to gain real-world examples and expertise, or answer specific technical queries.
  • Find out more: Check out the full ServiceNow Guru site.

7. SN Pro Tips

SN Pro Tips is an online blog run by The SN Guys, a well-known ServiceNow implementation consultancy. The ‘Pro Tips’ (i.e. blogs) are generally how-to guides for specific ServiceNow queries. Some recent examples include “How to Identify Duplicate Records by Multiple Fields in ServiceNow” or less technical queries like “How to Merge Personal & Company ServiceNow Accounts.”

At a Glance – SN Pro Tips:

  • What is it?: A blog offering tips, tricks, and tutorials by experienced ServiceNow professionals.
  • What resources are available?: Video guides, how-tos, and blog articles on common admin and development tasks. Like ServiceNow Guru, it also features several technical how-to guides aimed at ServiceNow developers.
  • Why should you use it?: Technical guidance, answers to practical, how-to style questions, and real-world examples from ServiceNow experts.
  • Find out more: Check out the full SN Pro Tips site

Paid ServiceNow Resources

As a general rule, we’re already spoilt for choice when it comes to free ServiceNow resources, as you can clearly see from the examples above. So you might be forgiven for thinking that there’s not much point in discussing paid resources.

Most of the time, that’s probably true. But in certain circumstances, these paid resources will come in handy, so we thought it was worth including them as well.

Perhaps the most obvious reason to consider these is if your company already has a subscription to one of these platforms. In this case, they’re effectively free for you anyway, so there’s no downside to considering these options. If you’re a manager or team leader, you might also have some spare learning and development budget to spare. And if you’ve searched the resources above and are still struggling to find the answers, these paid options may be worth considering. If in doubt, there’s always a free trial…

Nonetheless, with so many free resources, it’s definitely worth checking that your questions aren’t answered for free elsewhere before getting out the bank card.

The cost of these options will vary depending on the provider. Most offer access to all the content on their platform through an ongoing monthly subscription, which usually includes a free trial as well. Some providers also offer one-time purchases for individual content, though this is less common.

8. Instructor-Led Training

Technically, the Instructor-Led Training courses have already featured on this list, since they’re available through the ServiceNow University. Nonetheless, as the only paid resources available on the site, it’s worth separating them.

Unlike most resources in this blog, these courses are scheduled and run by certified instructors. This is good for anybody who struggles with self-guided learning and values the ability to ask questions and clarify their queries.

Some upcoming examples include “Scripting in ServiceNow Fundamentals” and “ServiceNow Administration Fundamentals”. The list of classes is regularly updated and popular courses often have multiple dates attached.

At a Glance – Instructor-Led Training:

  • What is it?: Live training sessions led by certified ServiceNow instructors.
  • What resources are available?: Deep-dive courses, labs, and workshops on ServiceNow products and certifications.
  • Why should you use it?: Good for those who prefer a structured and interactive learning environment. It’s also a great opportunity to ask questions of seasoned experts in real-time.
  • How much does it cost?: $1,900-$2,700 per training course.
  • Find out more: Check out the full Instructor-Led Training schedule.

9. LinkedIn Learning

There’s a good chance you’re already familiar with LinkedIn and its learning platform. Though not a ServiceNow-specific website, there’s plenty of useful content here – particularly around foundational courses like “Learning ServiceNow” or “ServiceNow Basic Administration”. This is good for anybody looking to start and learn the basics.

As a general rule, you can expect these courses to be a little more user-friendly than the ServiceNow or expert-created content elsewhere in this piece – another reason why it’s good for beginners. But on the flipside, you’re less likely to get the same level of technical depth and hands-on experience here, so it’s helpful to choose your resources wisely.

At a Glance – LinkedIn Learning:

  • What is it?: A professional learning platform with a selection of ServiceNow-related courses.
  • What resources are available?: Over 200 training videos, covering the basics up to technical, product, and feature-specific guides. Courses range from a few minutes to over three hours.
  • Why should you use it?: If you’ve already got a LinkedIn Learning subscription, or if you’re looking for visual demos for query-specific questions that you can’t find elsewhere.
  • How much does it cost?: LinkedIn Learning does not offer one-time purchases. Individual licenses are available from $29.99 a month, and organizations are encouraged to contact sales for a bespoke quote.

10. Udemy

Udemy offers a very similar setup to LinkedIn Learning, but with some notable exceptions. For a start, there’s about five times as much ServiceNow content here, with over 1,000 individual resources. It also caters to a broader range of technical skill sets, with beginner courses like “ServiceNow ITSM from 0 to Hero” up to expert guides like “Scripting and Advanced Development in ServiceNow”.

However, the most important distinction is in the pricing. Unlike LinkedIn, Udemy allows users to purchase individual courses, which is particularly useful if you’re only looking to dip into a single topic. There are also several different tiers of monthly subscriptions for individual learners or organizations.

At a Glance – Udemy:

  • What is it?: A marketplace for on-demand video courses, including ServiceNow content from various instructors.
  • What resources are available?: Around 1,000 hands-on resources, including quizzes, practice tests, role plays, and more.
  • Why should you use it?: If you’ve already got a Udemy subscription or if you’re looking for a more structured course.
  • How much does it cost?: Individual courses are available for one-time purchase from around $10-$30 per course, and monthly subscriptions are generally available for around $20-$40/month. A small number of free courses are also available.

Final Thoughts

Even the biggest ServiceNow advocates will admit that this community can be a little complex at times. That being said, few tech companies can boast as complete a range of free online training resources as ServiceNow.

Given the sheer wealth of resources on this list, we’re pretty confident there’s something for everybody here. But even this is only the tip of the iceberg: there are plenty of other resources, channels, and websites out there. Of course, we can’t include everything in this list, but hopefully we’ve given you a better idea of where to start.
